Ecological Resort on Ovaka Island

PDF  An ecological resort on the tropical island of Ovaka, planned for 2011. Compatibility with the environemnt will be an important criterion during the planning of the resort.  Abominations like those perpetrated on the Maldive Islands will be rigorously avoided. Unnecessary luxuries such as freshwater swimming pools, Jacuzzi tubs and similar transgressions will be avoided.

Protection of the underwater world and the environment will be paramount. So we will take a little more time over the planning, so that this paradise will in future remain a paradise.

Ovaka island belongs to the Vava'u group and lies on the northern edge of the Tonaga islands in the middle of the South Pacific. The secluded island is surrounded by clear blue water and beautiful beaches. There is a fine reef with a wonderful lagoon. You can almost swim and snorkel straight out of your deckchair. Here you can see the prettiest corals and there are coral fish in all colours. You could almost believe you were in the middle of an aquarium.  Relax in a hammock or go swimming, snorkelling, diving, sailing, canoeing, surfing, deepsea fishing or whale watching. The giant humpbacked whales come during the months from July to November. It is an impressive experience to go swimming or snorkelling with these creatures.

On Ovaka island you have the ideal opportunity, since our island lies right in the middle of their mating haunts. Humpbacked whales can be seen swimming past our local reef or resting close inshore after their strenuous journey from the Antarctic.

A wide variety of tropical fruits like bananas, mangos and cane sugar grow on Ovaka itself. The island is also home to many kinds of animals including birds and lizards. On the island there is also a village inhabited by natives.

With a little luck you can even see flying foxes. Sometimes hundreds of them fly from island to island during the day searching for food.
